SPIIND has played an active role within the defence sector since 1995 and has carried out a wide range of maintenance and project activities on both Royal New Zealand Navy and other international defence force Navy ships, here in New Zealand. SPIIND also a role in the maintenance and build of other defence assets across New Zealand, including the build of major modules for the ANZAC fleet upgrade over a five year period from 2005.

Since then SPIIND has developed its expertise further working with both New Zealand and other international defence forces in providing design and build of training mocks ups and anti-terrorism simulators in both Simunition and 'Live Fire' environments.

SPIIND was recently recognised by the New Zealand Defence Force for its services and attention to detail along with its health and safety performance and awarded, out of 3500 contractors, the Commendation Award for Health and Safety and also in the same year was an award finalist for Project Delivery under NZ$15m.
